About The Position

Holy Family School’s philosophy of education is to help each child fully develop his/her potential in a safe, caring Christ-centered environment and readiness for success in high school, college and careers. The Middle School English Language Arts Teacher is responsible for providing engaging and rigorous instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language skills for students in grades 6 through 8. The teacher treats everyone with dignity and respect and models the gospel values of compassion, caring, concern for others, respect and service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field required.
  • Valid teaching certification preferred, or willingness/ability to obtain certification through an alternative certification program
  • Prior teaching experience at the middle school level preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of current instructional strategies and educational technology.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver effective ELA instruction aligned with the Diocese of Baton Rouge Schools Learning Standards.
  • Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary, writing, and communication skills.
  • Develop lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Assess student progress regularly using formative and summative assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance data.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students.
  • Integrate technology and multimedia resources into instruction when appropriate.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and student success.
  • Maintain classroom management procedures consistent with school policies.
  • Encourage students’ development of critical thinking, independent reading habits, and effective writing skills.
