About The Position

Sisters Academy’s passionate and dynamic ELA Teacher provides engaging, rigorous, and culturally responsive instruction to middle school students in grades 5–8. The teacher fosters a love of reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication while supporting the Academy’s mission of empowering girls through academic excellence, faith, leadership, and social justice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching middle school-aged students.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and faith-based environment of Sisters Academy.

Nice To Haves

  • Maryland State Teacher Certification or eligibility.
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Familiarity with literacy intervention and differentiated instruction strategies.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach English Language Arts courses to students in grades 5–8, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, literature, and speaking and listening skills.
  • Design and implement standards-based lessons aligned with curriculum goals and middle school learning standards.
  • Incorporate diverse literature, culturally responsive teaching practices, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Differentiate instruction to support varied learning needs and promote academic growth.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction.
  • Promote strong writing skills across narrative, informational, argumentative, and research-based formats.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and academically challenging classroom environment.
  • Encourage student voice, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Support students’ confidence, leadership development, and personal growth.
  • Build meaningful relationships with students rooted in respect, empathy, and high expectations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to support interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
  • Participate in school events, faculty meetings, professional development, and community outreach activities.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Support the faith-based and mission-centered culture of the school community.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance.
  • Prepare progress reports, report cards, and assessment data as required.
  • Establish and maintain organized classroom procedures and routines.
  • Consistently uphold school policies and expectations.
