KIPP New Orleans Schools (KNOS) is seeking passionate and dedicated Middle School ELA Teachers for the upcoming academic year.   • Ability to meet the physical demands of classroom teaching (standing, circulating, occasional lifting/moving of classroom materials).
  • Able to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to safely lift and move up to 30 lbs independently.
  • Duties may require traveling to other school facilities using employee's personal transportation.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction using HQIM, communicating daily objectives and success criteria, and checking for understanding throughout the lesson.
  • Plan and adapt units and lessons that build conceptual understanding and fluency, scripting questions, models, exemplars, and anticipated misconceptions, and aligning tasks and rubrics to the depth of standards.
  • Use data to drive instruction by analyzing daily work, interims, and state assessments, and reteaching, spiraling, and extending content.
  • Differentiate and scaffold instruction using diverse strategies, providing accommodations/modifications for students with IEP/504 plans, and coordinating with DSS/ESL staff.
  • Structure purposeful practice, including independent work, small groups, centers, and peer discourse, that requires evidence, academic language, and grade-level thinking.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback tied to rubrics and maintain accurate, transparent grades and make-up work systems.
  • Design and implement common assessments, ensuring item alignment and reliability, and using exemplars/anchors for calibration.
  • Establish safe, joyful routines that maximize time-on-task and protect learning time bell-to-bell.
  • Affirm high expectations and growth mindset, selecting culturally sustaining texts, problems, and examples.
  • Apply school-wide behavior systems consistently and restoratively, using pre-corrections, de-escalation, and restorative conversations.
  • Integrate SEL skills, mood checks, and goal setting to build belonging, resilience, and self-management.
  • Model school values and professionalism, meet deadlines, and uphold duty coverage.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families through frequent, strengths-based communication and co-create goals and action plans.
  • Communicate progress (grades, attendance, behavior, reading levels) through scheduled updates and family conferences.
  • Participate in key school events, support recruitment and retention activities.
  • Set ambitious goals for student mastery and classroom culture, track progress, and celebrate growth.
  • Welcome coaching and feedback, implementing it by the next lesson/cycle and reflecting on impact using student work.
  • Engage in professional development and PLCs, contributing artifacts that show PD-to-practice transfer.
  • Collaborate to design/refine common assessments and participate in data meetings that produce concrete reteach plans.
  • Plan and teach for access and rigor for every learner, including multilingual learners, students with disabilities, advanced learners, and newcomers/SLIFE.
  • Examine outcomes and discipline data to reduce disproportionality and adjust instruction, grading, and routines accordingly.
  • Create structures for student and family voice and act on insights.
  • Uphold equitable grading and policies, ensuring materials and displays reflect all students.
  • Meet school attendance and punctuality standards, submitting PTO/leave per policy, and maintaining reliable coverage plans.
  • Follow IEP/504 requirements, secure test materials, deliver accommodations, and complete documentation accurately and on time.
  • Submit lesson plans, assessments, and grades by network deadlines and keep current make-up/retake logs.
  • Use approved platforms for technology and data privacy, safeguarding student data (FERPA), and maintaining device/inventory accountability.
  • Follow health/safety procedures, complete mandatory reporting, and participate in crisis drills and supervision routines.
