About The Position

Sugar Creek Charter School's mission is to eradicate generational poverty by providing a rigorous, college and career preparatory education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, focusing on academic preparation, college and career readiness, and life skills for success. We are seeking a mission-aligned, passionate, and dedicated Middle School ELA Intervention Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and challenging learning environment, implement rigorous and differentiated literacy instruction, and support the academic and social-emotional growth of all students.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree
  • North Carolina Teacher Certification/License (Required)
  • Three (3) or more years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of North Carolina ELA standards for middle school grades (6–8)
  • Experience implementing literacy interventions and evidence-based reading instructional practices
  • Experience using assessment data to drive instruction and monitor student progress
  • Knowledge of the MTSS framework and intervention processes
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to fostering academic excellence and supporting the success of all students

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, plan, and instruct small groups of students using evidence-based literacy intervention strategies, including scaffolding, differentiated instruction, and targeted reading and writing support that promotes student growth and achievement.
  • Effectively implement guided reading, literacy intervention programs, and small-group ELA instruction based on student data and individual learning needs.
  • Provide classroom support for teachers and students to strengthen literacy outcomes across grade levels.
  • Assist with schoolwide literacy initiatives, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collect, analyze, and utilize student data to identify skill gaps, reading deficiencies, and common misconceptions.
  • Use progress-monitoring data to inform lesson planning and measure student growth in reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
  • Administer and interpret literacy assessments to guide intervention planning and instructional decisions.
  • Follow and implement the school-wide behavior plan, including reinforcing and monitoring individualized behavior support plans when needed.
  • Meet weekly with the MTSS Intervention Coordinator/Coach to discuss student progress, instructional rigor, intervention effectiveness, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Understand the importance of effective communication and build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to parent-teacher conferences and communicate student progress, intervention goals, and achievement data.
  • Adhere to deadlines and expectations outlined by the intervention team coordinator and school administration.
  • Embrace a growth mindset by actively seeking and applying feedback to enhance instructional practices and student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in planning sessions, coaching cycles, and professional learning opportunities with curriculum leaders and instructional coaches.
  • Collaborate closely with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, exceptional children staff, and support personnel to improve student achievement.
  • Actively participate in professional development and pursue opportunities for continuous professional growth.
  • Contribute positively to the school community through team meetings, committees, family engagement events, and school activities.
