About The Position

University Prep (UPrep) is seeking a talented, engaging, and compassionate Middle School Soccer Coach. UPrep is an independent 6-12 school located in Seattle, WA, committed to fostering a culturally rich and inclusive community. The ideal candidate will be a leader who understands best practices in coaching soccer and thrives in both independent and team environments. This role involves leading one of the multiple Middle School boys’ soccer teams, with a season running from September 2nd to October 31st. Practices are held twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00pm – 4:30pm), and matches take place between 2:30pm – 6:00pm. The school emphasizes integrity, respect, and responsibility, aiming to develop students into intellectually courageous, socially responsible citizens.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Demonstrated competence and experience in coaching soccer required
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain valid First Aid/CPR card
  • Must be a strong, successful soccer player
  • Deep knowledge of the intricacies of the game of soccer
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of middle school-aged students
  • Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
  • Professional manner, discretion, and appearance
  • Sense of humor, energy and enthusiasm and ability to hold students and oneself to high expectations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
  • Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Proficient in appropriate computer skills and office equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Recent successful coaching experience in a Middle School environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Discusses game strategy and technique with Varsity/D1 coaching staff
  • Conducts player evaluations during tryouts and mid-season review
  • Manages player development based on program core competencies
  • Works with Asst. Athletic Dir. and Middle School coaching staff to create practice plans that are skill appropriate
  • Teaches appropriate fundamentals, techniques and skills
  • Is responsible for the health and safety of the athletes
  • In cooperation with Varsity Head Coach, articulates a well-defined and understandable coaching philosophy
  • Applies developmentally appropriate and age appropriate methods to coaching student-athletes
  • Emphasizes sportsmanship and leadership among athletes
  • Clearly communicates to players, parents, administrators and staff
  • Positively motivates athletes and promotes teamwork
  • Directs off-court curriculum
  • Attends all meetings and trainings as required by the league and/or Athletic Director
  • Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
