About The Position

To help each participating student achieve a level of skill, appreciation for the values of discipline, sportsmanship, school spirit, pride and an increased level of self-esteem.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills with parents and students required
  • Applicant must establish a team that demonstrates good sportsmanship
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment).
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
  • The employee will remain free of any alcohol or drugs throughout his/her employment with the district as outlined in Board Policy #4210.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and communicating clear and specific goals for the team and individual players
  • Develop the skills of players specific to basketball
  • Maintaining open and honest communication with students, parents, other coaches, and Athletic Coordinator
  • Ability to establish an environment in which athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image
  • Developing and demonstrating a good knowledge base of best practices specific to their coaching arena
  • Supporting and collaborating with coaches in other athletic programs
  • Modeling and teaching skills necessary to succeed
  • Supporting student academic expectations, responsibilities, and achievements
  • Developing the knowledge and understanding of Forest Hills Public Schools policies and procedures as it applies to athletics
  • Promoting and enforcing the student-athlete code of conduct
  • Connecting athletic experiences with life experiences
  • Providing an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among coaches and players
  • Modeling good sportsmanship always
  • Creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for student athletes
  • Understanding their leadership style and its impact on student-athletes
  • Perform other duties as assigned
