About The Position

Provide leadership for the school's athletic program through the continuous development, implementation, and enhancement of the sport(s) assigned, while promoting student-athlete growth, program excellence, and alignment with district goals and expectations.

Requirements

  • Must have a Teachers Certificate or valid Substitute Certificate or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects of at least fifteen (15) pounds.
  • Visual ability requires mono and color vision.

Responsibilities

  • Support and demonstrate leadership in team dynamics aligned with MSHSAA standards for Sideline Cheer.
  • Assist in implementing and enforcing activity standards outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook, including attending all required sponsor sessions.
  • Support planning and execution of Assistant Sponsor responsibilities.
  • Plan and organize activities that support the school’s athletic teams.
  • Ensure Cheer/Dance Team participation at all Girls and Boys JV and Varsity home contests (basketball, football, and volleyball).
  • Coordinate efforts for the team to support other athletic programs (soccer, baseball, track, cross country, and swim) through promotions or organized cheer sections.
  • Assist in the coordination and overall management of the cheer program.
  • Support the Head Coach with student supervision during practices and contests.
  • Collaborate with Head Coaches on transportation and game management logistics.
  • Maintain responsibility for the care, inspection, and inventory of all equipment and facilities; submit required documentation to the Athletic Director.
  • Help organize and schedule regular practice sessions focused on maximizing student-athlete development.
  • Emphasize safety and remain informed on best practices for training and injury management.
  • Model ethical behavior and uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship at all times.
  • Ensure building use policies and schedules are understood and followed.
  • Oversee the return of all school equipment, maintain accurate inventory records, and hold student participants accountable per the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.
  • Assist with maintaining records of team and individual achievements and support the distribution of awards; submit all required information to the Athletic Director within two weeks of season completion.
  • Collaborate with the site-based Athletic Director to ensure a strong and successful program.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development through clinics and relevant publications.
  • Complete required MSHSAA Coaching Principles Course and First Aid certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
