About The Position

School in the Square (S2) is seeking a dedicated, mission-aligned Middle School AIS/Intervention Math Teacher for grades 6-8. This role is based at our founding campus in Washington Heights, a bilingual, community-rooted model serving a predominantly Hispanic or Latinx population. The teacher will report to the Principal and collaborate with the School Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure high academic standards and focus on students' social-emotional needs. S2 believes in providing students with the tools and support to become lifelong learners in a challenging, high-quality, nurturing, and supportive environment.

Requirements

  • Skilled in current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Experience using the structures of balanced literacy (read aloud, shared reading, guided reading, independent reading) and SOR to support a diverse community of students in reading, writing and phonics instruction.
  • Experience with interactive, hands-on, creative learning.
  • Experience using technology to support instruction in all areas.
  • Experience using assessment to drive instruction.
  • Experience with differentiation of curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Knowledge of co-teaching strategies.
  • A strategic, solutions-focused thinker with strong communication and planning skills.
  • A strong relationship builder who gets personal fulfillment by teaching and coaching students.
  • Familiar with restorative practices.
  • A strong believer in anti-racism education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, trauma-informed practices.
  • Self-reflective with the capacity to accept and implement feedback to improve instruction.
  • A graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education program in a relevant content area.
  • Current possessor of a valid New York State Teaching Certification or willing to enroll in a New York State Teaching Certification Program and obtain such Certification within two years.
