About The Position

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider, offering a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts, and enrichment activities for all ages. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs, and sports in Madison schools. The Middle School After School programs operate at all 12 MMSD Middle Schools on a "drop-in" model, focusing on student choice. Program leaders will lead a variety of activities including art and crafts, STEM, youth sports, social-emotional learning, and homework help for students in grades 6-8.

Requirements

  • Desire to create a positive impact on middle school-aged youth.
  • Ability to arrive on time and stay on site during scheduled shifts.
  • Strong Communication with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to program changes and needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with middle school-aged youth.
  • Experience planning and leading activities.
  • Experience with social and emotional support needs of middle school-aged youth.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students attending After School (including during sporting events & field trips).
  • Plan and lead a variety of after school clubs (SEL, STEM, Sports, Cooking, Academic, Gaming, etc.).
  • Ensure students are following program rules and expectations.
  • Create an environment that allows students to feel safe and respected at all times.
  • Communication with students, families and school day staff.
  • Maintain appropriate attendance.
