About The Position

Saint Albert Catholic, a co-educational institution serving students from childcare to high school in Council Bluffs, Iowa, is seeking a full-time middle-high school social studies teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about advancing the mission of Catholic education and inspiring students to reach their spiritual, academic, moral, and physical potential in alignment with the teachings of the Catholic Church. This role is perfect for an educator enthusiastic about social studies who wishes to guide students in their learning journey within a Catholic school environment. The teacher will be responsible for a comprehensive social studies curriculum, including history, geography, civics and government, and economics. Key responsibilities include developing engaging, challenging, and innovative lesson plans that encourage student exploration through discussions, research, and presentations. Collaboration with colleagues to share teaching strategies and resources is expected, as is active participation in the school community to maintain a positive school culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in education from an accredited college or university.
  • Active Iowa Teaching Licensure with proper endorsements or ability to obtain by August 2026.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing engaging, standards-based lesson plans.
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Solid knowledge of the four main branches of the social studies curriculum (history, geography, civics and government, and economics).

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1-2 years teaching experience in a middle or high school classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver instruction strategies that align with the Iowa Core and engage students in active and positive learning appropriate for middle and high school grade levels.
  • Develop a rapport with students to build trust and encourage their progress, fostering a classroom environment where students feel safe and comfortable taking risks and questioning to seek understanding.
  • Promote student achievement by effectively managing a classroom of diverse learners in an inviting and accepting environment.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians, informing them of their child’s progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues by sharing teaching strategies, resources, and ideas.
  • Be an active participant in the larger school community.
