About The Position

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Mid-Level Fabrication Specialist (Level C) to join our Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage team at NASA’s Space System Processing Facility located in Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The ideal candidate has experience in one or more of the following: mechanical (tube installations), structural drilling and assembly, electrical (wire harness installation), orbital tube welding and/or thermal protective systems application. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Candidates must be willing to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required. This position requires the ability to obtain a clearance for access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (An Interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post Start is required.)

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
  • More than 3 years of experience in an aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience with safety process and/or procedures in a manufacturing or operations environment
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 (U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Ordinance training
  • Experience working on a NASA Program
  • Experience in installation and handling of tubes, valves, fittings
  • Manufacturing experience in human spaceflight, spaceflight, or aircraft hardware
  • Experience on human-rated spacecraft hardware
  • Experience working in a clean room environment
  • Experience in Structural assembly with an emphasis on match drilling aluminum, titanium, and composite materials
  • Experience with tubing and ducting installation
  • Experience manually tacking weld joints, with the GTAW weld process
  • Training/education from an accredited welding institute/training center
  • More than 1 year of experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
  • Experience with orbital tube welding

Responsibilities

  • Performs machine set-up, machining, welding set-up, welding, sheet metal fabrication and extrusion, tube bending and fabrication tasks
  • Performs composite lay-up, fabrication and assembly tasks
  • Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components
  • Assembles, repairs, modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains
  • Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products
  • Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products
  • Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests
  • Performs organic chemical conversion and paint preparation
  • Applies organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements
  • Works on complex components and systems using established drawings and requirements
