About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Mid-Level Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator with hands-on experience as a production database administrator, specifically with AWS EC2 and RDS for SQL Server. The role involves ensuring service level agreements for performance, availability, backups, and security for various user groups supporting applications. The position is remote and follows an 8 am - 5 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST) shift schedule, with participation in 24x7 on-call rotations for the production environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust level clearance.
  • Bachelors Degree and 5 years of experience, an Associates Degree and 7 years of experience, or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years of experience.
  • Minimum 5 years Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience including extensive production support.
  • Experienced in virtualizing Microsoft SQL Server 2019/2022 and Microsoft SQL Server High Availability options (replication - transactional or log shipping and Always On).
  • Experience with SQL Maintenance Plans, SQL Agent jobs, and Ola Hallengren's Maintenance Solutions.
  • Experience with MS Windows Security Domains, Networking, and Group Managed Service Accounts.
  • Experienced in AWS cloud operations supporting databases on EC2 and RDS instances.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining Cloud Native Databases leveraging Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD automation (GitLab and Liquibase).

  • Experience with transact/SQL language and programming experience/knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install Microsoft SQL Server instances in various configurations: Standalone, Windows Failover Cluster, and Availability Groups, and Cloud hosting (AWS) including SQL Server RDS.
  • Develop, test, deploy and maintain security and audit solutions.
  • Implement Center for Internet Security (CIS) and Safeguard Computer Security Evaluation Matrix (SCSEM) hardening standards.
  • Review NESSUS scans to remediate vulnerabilities and database compliance findings.
  • Schedule, monitor, and validate database backups and restores.
  • Monitor metrics collection jobs for performance, availability, and capacity planning through Datadog.
  • Schedule and apply DB upgrades, patches, and certificates.
  • Follow best practices, work plans, checklists, and defined processes.
  • Proactively support application teams as needed.
  • Participate in project technical reviews and lead work product reviews.
  • Develop and maintain database support documentation.
  • Manage complex database incidents and problems, providing resolutions in a timely manner.
  • Engage SMEs or vendors to resolve more complex incidents as required.
  • Implement customer database change requests.
