About The Position

The Microsoft Data Center Telecommunications Manager is responsible for leading telecommunications construction operations across Microsoft data center projects. This position oversees field execution, subcontractor performance, safety, quality, scheduling, and coordination with Microsoft, project stakeholders, and trade partners. The role also provides technical guidance and construction support to Project Managers to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4+ years field experience in a lead role and some industry certifications
  • Extensive experience managing telecommunications construction in large data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of high-count fiber, structured cabling, telecommunications pathways, testing, and commissioning.
  • Experience managing large field teams and multiple subcontractors.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and bills of material.
  • Strong understanding of estimating, change management, manpower planning, procurement, and project controls.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and customer-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage telecommunications installation activities across multiple buildings, phases, or data center campuses.
  • Lead superintendents, foremen, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Advise and support Project Managers with telecommunications scope, planning, scheduling, manpower, materials, and installation requirements.
  • Review drawings, specifications, bills of material, project schedules, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Coordinate installation of fiber-optic cabling, copper cabling, pathways, fiber runners, cabinets, racks, grounding, security, DAS, RoIP, and other low-voltage systems.
  • Confirm manpower, materials, tools, equipment, and training requirements before work begins.
  • Monitor project milestones, productivity, quality, safety, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Identify constructability concerns, scope gaps, material shortages, and potential cost impacts.
  • Coordinate with the owner, general contractor, electrical contractor, design team, commissioning team, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Support estimating and preconstruction by reviewing project scope, labor requirements, installation methods, and project risks.
  • Ensure all work complies with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, safety standards, and customer expectations.
  • Manage testing, documentation, punch-list completion, system turnover, and project closeout.
  • Provide regular updates to company leadership and project stakeholders.
