About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Technologist to join our team in Overland Park, KS in the Micro Department. This is a PRN position. The role involves determining the acceptability of specimens for testing, performing routine and complex technical procedures, and monitoring/operating instrumentation. The Technologist will also prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents, report accurate test results, and perform preventative maintenance and quality control. Responsibilities include identifying and replenishing testing bench supplies, assisting with specimen processing when needed, and maintaining a safe work environment with appropriate personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR a MLS degree
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • 6 months or more of microbiology experience
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
