About The Position

Performs various chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Applies techniques used in the field of blood banking, hematology, serology, chemistry and morphological examinations. Records test results, quality control, remedial action and may also engage in research. In conjunction with the Laboratory Technical Director and Medical Director, performs technical and regulatory oversight of the Microbiology Department in the Laboratory which includes: monitoring continual compliance to federal, state and/or local regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies, acting as a technical resource for staff, maintaining essential equipment function checks, reviewing and developing policies and procedures, preparing and overseeing department quality assurance/improvement and quality control programs.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Required national certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of training/experience in a clinical Microbiology laboratory performing bacteriological culture reading.
  • Strong knowledge of bacteriological culture reading and interpretation, gram stain reading and interpretation, operation of equipment which performs bacterial identification and susceptibility testing as well as PCR testing.
  • Complete operational ability in all laboratory areas.
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office especially Excel and Word.
