As a Microbiology Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. The laboratory is based in Columbia, Missouri and employs approximately 70 people.

Requirements

3-5+ years' experience with Microbiology skills including culture setup, morphology interpretation, and identification of bacteria and fungi.
4-year degree in Science-related field preferred, or current coursework.
Analytical thinking while operating laboratory instruments and during data interpretation.
Good organizational skills with ability to multi-task.
Ability to pay close attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Communication skills, both verbal and written.
Positive, can-do attitude.
Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as appropriate.
Motivation to acquire new laboratory skills to meet business needs.

Responsibilities

Using laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests aimed to help specialists to diagnose animal illnesses.
Setting up and reading microbiology cultures and reading the results per the laboratory’s SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
Specializing in Microbiology Culture Setup.
Interpretation of bacterial and fungal colony morphologies.
Identification of bacteria and fungi using MALDI-TOF MS and/or biochemical testing.
Performing antibiotic sensitivity testing.
Making microbiology culture media.
Cell Line Sterility Setup.
Data analysis and troubleshooting.
Case approval.
Update and write SOPs.
Performing other duties as assigned.
