About The Position

As a Microbiology Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. The laboratory is based in Columbia, Missouri and employs approximately 70 people.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years' experience with Microbiology skills including culture setup, morphology interpretation, and identification of bacteria and fungi.
  • 4-year degree in Science-related field preferred, or current coursework.
  • Analytical thinking while operating laboratory instruments and during data interpretation.
  • Good organizational skills with ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as appropriate.
  • Motivation to acquire new laboratory skills to meet business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Using laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests aimed to help specialists to diagnose animal illnesses.
  • Setting up and reading microbiology cultures and reading the results per the laboratory’s SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Specializing in Microbiology Culture Setup.
  • Interpretation of bacterial and fungal colony morphologies.
  • Identification of bacteria and fungi using MALDI-TOF MS and/or biochemical testing.
  • Performing antibiotic sensitivity testing.
  • Making microbiology culture media.
  • Cell Line Sterility Setup.
  • Data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Case approval.
  • Update and write SOPs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
