About The Position

The Microbiology Lab Assistant will perform limited microbiology functions. In accordance with standard operating procedures, follows all applicable regulatory standards.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to meet the required physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be organized and willing to work a flexible schedule as needed.

Responsibilities

• Daily BacT/Alert quality control maintenance.
• Removal of finalized cultures from the BacT/Alert.
• Verifies Vitek temperature is acceptable.
• Performs the following basic duties in the microbiology lab: Swab inoculation of Thio and TSB, Log in specimens (electronically and manually), Pull discard tubes, Daily temperatures/CO2 readings, Log in new media, reagents and supplies.
• Performs weekly eye wash/shower maintenance.
• Performs weekly hood QC.
• Incubator and refrigerator quarterly PM.
• Troubleshoots the temperature monitoring system.
• Weekly cleaning of irradiation /rinsate room.
• File paperwork.
• Change CO2 tanks.
• 2nd check CTMS and manual log ins.
• Clean lab spaces.
• Organize and restock lab supplies.
• MicroCheck tube discard.
• Performs follow ups with branches as necessary.
• Irradiation Load specimens: Log in specimens, Label tubes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
