About The Position

Eurofins Environment Testing is searching for a Microbiology Analyst in Rochester NY. This role involves applying GMP/GLP, performing basic micro lab techniques and analyses, preparing media/cultures, and contributing to a small team using bacterial test systems. The analyst will also assist in writing reports, protocols, and SOPs, train other staff, and carry out procedures with minimal supervision. Meticulous record-keeping, culturing and enumerating infectious bacterial pathogens, and data entry into the LIMS computer system are key responsibilities. The role also includes maintaining and calibrating equipment, preparing and washing glassware, and performing other assigned duties such as Wet Chemistry, Sample Login, or Courier services. Sample receipt, verification of Chain of Custody (COC), logging samples into the Lab Management System, and preparing bottle kits for clients are also part of the job. The analyst will forward samples to other laboratories as needed, dispose of hazardous materials, monitor freezer and cooler temperatures, and maintain a clean and safe work environment. Inventory management, performing splits and composites, and potentially performing courier duties are also included. On-call availability for non-business hours is required for non-routine sampling, delivery, analysis setup, and readback of tests. Assistance with walk-in cooler maintenance, shipping empty coolers, logging outgoing coolers, and maintaining company vehicles are also part of the role. Professional client interaction and bottle order preparation are expected, along with other duties determined by local management.

Requirements

  • Biological degree required with minimum of 4 credit hours of Microbiology
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Must have a valid US drivers license without recent incident to drive company vehicle as needed

Responsibilities

  • Applies GMP/GLP in all areas of responsibility, as appropriate
  • Perform basic micro lab techniques/analyses and prepare media/cultures, based on job function
  • Contribute to a small team of analysts using bacterial test systems (i.e. Total Coliform testing, E. coli testing, Total Plate Counts, MPNs, and Wastewater testing)
  • Assist in writing, reviewing and editing reports, protocols and SOP’s.
  • Train other staff members.
  • Efficiently carry out procedures necessary to complete each analysis with minimal supervision.
  • Meticulously maintain precise records of all analyses in accordance with good laboratory practice.
  • Culture and enumerate infectious bacterial pathogens using routine microbiological techniques.
  • Enter data into LIMS computer system
  • Maintain/calibrate equipment (Incubators, water baths, refrigerators, etc.)
  • Prepare and wash glassware
  • Performs other duties as assigned (Wet Chemistry, Sample Login, Courier, etc.)
  • Receives and unloads incoming samples or consignments in accordance with DOT regulations and verifies receipt against Chain of Custody (COC), matches it to the corresponding quote and notes discrepancies daily.
  • Verifies that COC’s are accurate, complete, and correct and seeks resolution for those that are not.
  • Logs samples into Lab Management System daily to assign a lot number for tracking purposes and distributes paperwork to Project Managers.
  • Labels samples so they may be identified by the lot number assigns and delivers samples to appropriate labs for analysis daily.
  • Prepares bottle kits daily to be shipped to clients to collect samples and return for analysis in accordance with established procedures including EPA and DOT requirements.
  • Forwards samples to other laboratories in accordance with DOT regulations as needed to run tests that are not performed at that location.
  • Disposes of spent samples, waste and other potentially hazardous materials in accordance with established procedures.
  • Monitors freezer and cooler temperatures daily to confirm that the readings are within SOP guidelines.
  • Cleans and organizes the departments/labs daily to promote a clean, safe work environment and smoother flow of daily operations.
  • Maintains and promotes safety and conducts all operations in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.
  • Stocks and supplies inventory daily and assists with inventory of supplies to maintain proper quantity of materials to perform tasks appropriately.
  • Performs splits and composites as needed upon request.
  • May perform courier duties as necessitated to support lab and client needs.
  • Will be compliant with all driver procedures, certification, and Company driver policies.
  • Must be willing to be on-call during non-business hours in order to perform non-routine sampling, delivery, setup of analyses, and readback of tests.
  • Assists in maintenance of walk-in coolers to facilitate locating samples.
  • Ships empty coolers back to clients and other Eurofins Laboratories.
  • Logs all outgoing coolers in order to maintain a detailed inventory of all coolers.
  • Maintains all company vehicles for sample pickups and deliveries as needed.
  • Conducts all client interaction in an appropriate and professional manner.
  • Bottle order prep duties
