About The Position

Manages a program of regulatory review and enforcement in environmental health and protection, assists in developing policies and procedures for the assigned area, and directs subordinate supervisors and staff. The position supervises Environmental Compliance Specialists and reviews and approves letters, inspection reports, and enforcement actions. In some cases, the selected candidate negotiates settlements of enforcement actions. The position is currently located in Athens and is expected to relocate to Don Carter State Park in Gainesville, Georgia, around the beginning of 2028.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, geology, engineering (agricultural, chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary), or a related field from an accredited college or university, and four years of professional experience in environmental enforcement, environmental health, environmental monitoring, environmental protection, or environmental research. An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications may be substituted year-over-year.

Nice To Haves

Four years of professional environmental work experience.
Familiarity with Georgia regulatory requirements for air, wastewater, and solid waste regulations.
Experience writing enforcement documents.
Experience conducting environmental compliance inspections.
