About The Position

This position functions as a member of both the clinical and administrative team, completing daily tasks to ensure smooth operations in the SMG physician practice. The Medical Assistant I /Patient Service Specialist (PSS) I must maintain a professional, positive manner when interacting with patients and customers in-person, over the phone, or via email. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong customer service excellence expected.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience with EMR strongly preferred. (Athena a plus)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
  • Education from approved medical assistant program or equivalent preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years as a medical assistant preferred.
  • Athena (EMR) experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with providers to assist in delivering world-class care to patients.
  • Rooms patients and prepares them for the provider visit.
  • Takes vital signs, including accurate blood pressures, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, and respiratory rates, and enters them into the EMR.
  • Records patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, and prescription list into the EMR for physicals.
  • Obtains required consents and completes necessary forms for specific visit types.
  • Performs in-office testing as needed and performs controls on certain in-office tests.
  • Performs EKGs as ordered.
  • Chaperones Providers as required.
  • Administers vaccines and medications as ordered by the provider, following SMG policies.
  • Stocks rooms and monitors expiration dates of supplies in exam rooms.
  • Assists with incoming calls by answering, triaging, and routing them appropriately.
  • Registers patients in the EMR, verifies information (including demographics), and obtains accurate health insurance information.
  • Conducts eligibility checks to ensure insurance is accurately reflected.
  • Schedules patients' appointments and appropriate testing as directed, following scheduling rules and directing patient visits in other SMG practices.
  • Performs daily pre-visit planning for all upcoming scheduled appointments.
  • Performs outreach to select patient groups for patient care and quality initiatives, and schedules specialty appointments and testing as required.
  • Informs manager of all clinical or administrative supply needs or assists with ordering.
  • Obtains prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as per practice need.
  • Works independently with little supervision.
  • Adheres to all SMG policies.
  • Uses discretion to ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Performs all other duties as requested.
