About The Position

The Iona University Marriage and Family Therapy Program is seeking contracted Clinical Supervisors for students enrolled in the Iona Marriage and Family Therapy Master’s program. The Supervisor will work with supervisees for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters, including the Winter (2026) and Summer (2027) periods. Clinical Supervision will occur both in-person at the Iona Family Therapy Center (IFTC) and virtually on Iona’s Zoom Platform. Supervision is “the process of evaluating, training, and providing oversight to trainees using relational or systemic approaches for the purpose of helping them attain systemic clinical skills. Supervision is provided through live observation, face-to-face contact, or visual/audio technology-assisted means” (AAMFT Approved Supervision Designation: Standards Handbook, 2016).

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (preferable).
  • Appropriate state licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy in the state of New York (Preferable) and/or the state of New Jersey or Connecticut.
  • AAMFT Approved Supervisor with supervision experience OR can achieve the AAMFT approved supervisor designation within two years from the date of hire.
  • 2+ years of experience providing systemic supervision.
  • Familiar with electronic medical records (i.e.., Medicat), student record platform (i.e., Tevera, EXXAT, Vault) and Zoom platforms.
  • Proficient with relational/systemic supervision, service delivery, and case management fundamentals.
  • Proficient knowledge of relational/systemic concepts and theories in both clinical and supervision.
  • Proficient knowledge of self-of-the-therapist work within supervisory role.
  • Proficient knowledge of applicable state, AAMFT laws and rules, AAMFT Code of Ethics, AMFTRB Teletherapy and Telesupervision Guidelines II and HIPAA Federal regulations.
  • Strong communication, written and supervisory skills.
  • Proficient computer skills to work efficiently and effectively within technological platform at Iona.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice within the context of mental health.

Responsibilities

  • Leads weekly dyadic and group supervision courses with student therapists each semester and leads a weekly dyadic and group supervision team during winter and summer periods
  • Conducts weekly supervision with student therapists in person at the IFTC and/or via live Zoom session observations
  • Coordinates with student therapists to attend live observations as a team in person (One-way mirror) and/or via Zoom platform.
  • Oversees and reviews students’ clinical work via case or audio/video as needed
  • Maintains regular contact with the Clinical Director regarding students’ clinical work
  • Attends faculty meeting once a month with the MFT faculty members (remote option)
  • Meets once a month with the Program Director and Clinical Director (remote option)
  • Ensures student therapists comply with AAMFT code of ethic and New York State licensure requirements as well as New Jersey and Connecticut, applicable.
  • Ensures compliance, accuracy, quality, and timely submission of clinical documentation
  • Able to enter a live session in a supervisor/co-therapist role if needed with very complex cases
  • Ensures the clinical supervision hours ratio, type of supervision and modality according to COAMFTE requirements
  • Maintains supervision notes
  • Reviews and signs student therapists’ clinical notes on Medicat One for all supervisees’ caseloads
  • Completes Clinical Evaluation of Student therapists on the program’s clinical education management platform for each training period
  • Takes weekly attendance of students and submit final grades on PeopleSoft when grades are due.
  • Keeps a monthly track of hours of supervision on excel sheet and submit to Program Director.
