About The Position

The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is seeking a Sworn Investigator in the Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit (MFPAU), a federally certified Medicaid Fraud Control Unit responsible for investigating and prosecuting Medicaid provider fraud and patient abuse or neglect statewide. Investigators in MFPAU work closely with attorneys, auditors, and law enforcement partners to build meaningful cases that protect vulnerable individuals and public funds. The position provides a broad range of investigative responsibilities, including interviews, evidence collection, surveillance, warrant preparation, case-development support, and courtroom testimony, making it a strong opportunity for someone who wants challenging investigative work tied directly to public service.

Requirements

  • Nebraska law enforcement certification including meeting or exceeding annual mandatory continuing education requirements required.
  • Ability to be commissioned as a Deputy State Sheriff.
  • The ability to function as an integral part of an investigative team (including attorneys, auditors, and law enforcement) and work in a group setting.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, law enforcement, police science, accounting, finance or business. Substantial experience may be substituted for college degree.
  • Proficiency in standard office software and systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Applicants must have no felony, serious misdemeanor or domestic abuse related convictions.
  • A criminal history and abuse background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior investigative experience
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation
  • Experience with and knowledge of relevant white-collar law enforcement or criminal investigation techniques
  • Experience with application of state statutes, agency rules and regulations and court/administrative hearings process.
