About The Position

Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) provide non-medical counseling services to Service Members and their families. This role is designed to be flexible, supporting various needs across military installations and communities. MFLCs offer solution-focused approaches to issues before they become significant challenges. Counselors may support adults or minors in diverse settings, including embedded with units, supporting families, or within schools. The MFLC model emphasizes direct counseling without the complexities of insurance or extensive paperwork, utilizing intuitive reporting tools. This position supports Fort Johnson/Fort Polk in Louisiana.

Requirements

• A master’s degree or higher in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
• Hold a valid independent license in the mental health field from any US state or territory (LCSW, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist).
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Must be able to pass a basic background check for employment, a Child National Agency Check, and Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance, commonly called a Public Trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Experience supporting Special Operations Command (SOCOM) personnel and families.
• Experience working within a school setting or Child Development Center (CDC).

Responsibilities

• Provide face-to-face counseling to military service members and their families (individual, couples, family, and children).
• Recommend appropriate referrals and handoffs based on experienced differential clinical skills to military and community resources.
• Offer presentations to address social skills development and social emotional learning.
• Build rapport with service members, spouses, and children by attending installation and community events.
• Help families and children with challenges particular to the military community, such as transitions, frequent moves, separations, and deployments.
