About The Position

Corning's Optical Connectivity business is seeking a Metrology Technician to support daily laboratory operations through measurement, inspection, and reporting activities. This role operates advanced metrology equipment — including coordinate measuring machines, computed tomography (CT) systems, and vision systems — and contributes to process improvement, fixture development, and cross-functional coordination with internal customers.

Requirements

  • Technical or an Associate degree and experience in Metrology, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a measurement laboratory, manufacturing, quality, or technical support environment
  • Experience with coordinate measuring machines, computed tomography (CT) systems, optical scanning, or vision inspection systems
  • Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Working knowledge of first article inspection and basic statistical analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry and reporting
  • English language proficiency, written and verbal, required for collaboration with global teams

  • Experience supporting equipment, product, or technology transfers in manufacturing
  • Familiarity with fiber optic products or inspection systems
  • Experience building or modifying fixtures for measurement applications
  • Basic experience creating computer-aided design (CAD) drawings for fixtures or part-holding concepts
  • Exposure to automation or efficiency improvement projects in a laboratory environment
  • Experience supporting teams across multiple sites or regions
  • Basic experience with optical test instruments used in manufacturing, troubleshooting, or laboratory support

Responsibilities

  • Perform measurement and inspection activities using coordinate measuring machines, computed tomography (CT) systems, profilometers, and vision systems — including first article inspections and dimensional evaluations
  • Coordinate sample delivery, measurement requirements, and timing of results with internal customers
  • Document measurement results and inspection findings; communicate status updates to the local team and stakeholders
  • Support fixture development, workflow optimization, and process improvement initiatives; create basic computer-aided design (CAD) drawings for measurement fixtures
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and safe work practices; provide occasional field support using optical test instruments
