Metrology Scientist, X-ray Sources
About The Position
The Metrology Scientist tests and characterizes X-ray source products to improve quality and verify that products meet specifications internally and externally. The role assists in creating and executing test platforms and procedures for new and existing product lines, and works with Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, and Reliability throughout the product life cycle. The position operates test systems in support of development projects, manufacturing, reliability, and continuous improvement. Testing may include functional, environmental, and lifetime testing of X-ray sources. The scientist prepares technical reports for internal documentation and customers, and may present at conferences. The role also supports product specification development, troubleshoots equipment, helps establish test platforms, and assists with operator training and certification.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in physics or electrical engineering.
- Advanced use of electrical and mechanical tools, including grinders, drills, saws, soldering irons, microscopes, multimeters, and oscilloscopes, as well as fabrication.
- Experience writing technical reports.
- LabVIEW hardware programming and control experience.
- Experience with electromechanical hardware.
- Ability to operate a PC, including the MS Office suite.
- Troubleshooting skills for electrical systems.
- Programming for external hardware.
- Creative problem-solving ability.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with statistics and/or data analysis.
- Experience testing and operating X-ray sources and tubes.
Responsibilities
- Operate test systems in support of Development projects, Manufacturing, Reliability, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Conduct functional, environmental, and lifetime testing of X-ray sources.
- Generate reports using the MS Office suite, including technical calculations and conclusions or results, for internal documentation and customers; presentations may include conferences.
- Read and understand product specifications and participate in generating specifications.
- Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, mechanical, and programming problems with equipment.
- Assist with setup and creation of test platforms for the Development group and other teams.
- Assist with operator training and certification related to test systems and practices.
- Assist in creating and executing testing platforms and procedures for new and existing product lines.
