Metrology Quality Engineer 3

United Launch Alliance•Decatur, AL
•Onsite

About The Position

The Metrology Quality Engineer performs calibration, verification, and functional checks of measurement and test equipment (M&TE), including dimensional, mechanical, and electrical instruments. The role reviews engineering drawings, specifications, and technical data to determine accuracy requirements and interprets tolerances and GD&T to select appropriate calibration methods, equipment, and measurement setups. Work must align with internal calibration standards and applicable external requirements. The position maintains complete, compliant calibration records in the calibration management system, including results, certifications, measurement uncertainty considerations, and traceability data. It also verifies incoming new or outsourced calibrated equipment and reviews certificates for traceability and accuracy requirements. The engineer provides technical support for equipment discrepancies, measurement issues, and out-of-tolerance investigations, collaborating with Quality and Engineering on root-cause analysis and corrective actions. The engineer reviews and develops calibration procedures and improvements, guides users on care and handling of calibrated equipment, and supports internal audits and assessments by providing calibration data and explaining metrology processes. The position is located at ULA in Decatur, with relocation potentially available and no or infrequent travel. ULA describes its culture as team-oriented and committed to ethics, ingenuity, engagement, and employee professional development.
