About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a Metrology Program Technical Specialist to support the Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Program within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Principal Associate Directorate (PAD). This role involves performing technical receipt inspections of weapon-related measuring and test equipment (WM&TE), verifying equipment condition against acceptance criteria, identifying damage or defects, and reviewing documentation like calibration certificates. The specialist will maintain the M&TE database, track equipment status, monitor items in CSL Hold, and ensure inspection documentation is accurate and traceable. This position is within the Office of Laboratory Oversight, Mission Assurance (MA) department. A hybrid schedule may be offered after a probationary period, allowing for some remote work days based on organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Metrology, Quality, or a related technical field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience performing technical receipt inspections of measuring and test equipment or similar precision items.
  • Ability to evaluate equipment condition against documented acceptance criteria and identify visible damage, defects, missing components, and other nonconformances.
  • Ability to review supporting documentation, including calibration certificates, inspection records, and related paperwork, for completeness and consistency.
  • Ability to apply established procedures and independent judgment to document discrepancies and determine appropriate follow-up.
  • Experience maintaining accurate technical records and tracking equipment status in a database or asset management system.
  • Familiarity with metrology, calibration, quality assurance, or inspection processes.
  • Experience using M&TE tracking systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and traceability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a technical environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting receipt inspection or metrology operations in a technical or regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with M&TE documentation, calibration records, and receipt inspection workflow.
  • Experience identifying trends or recurring issues in inspection findings and recommending process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical receipt inspections of weapon-related measuring and test equipment (WM&TE) using established acceptance criteria to verify equipment condition upon receipt, identify visible damage, defects, missing components, and other discrepancies, and document required follow-up actions in accordance with program procedures.
  • Review equipment records and supporting technical documentation, including calibration certificates and receipt paperwork, to confirm completeness, accuracy, and traceability to program requirements.
  • Evaluate inspection findings using established procedures and independent judgment to determine whether equipment meets receipt requirements or requires additional review, correction, or disposition.
  • Enter, update, validate, and maintain WM&TE records in METRO to support accurate status tracking, data integrity, and database consistency.
  • Generate and review METRO reports related to inspection status, calibration review, and CSL Hold items to support technical workflow tracking and resolution of open issues.
  • Maintain receipt inspection forms, logs, and related records to ensure technical findings, status determinations, and follow-up actions are accurately documented.
  • Identify recurring discrepancies, documentation issues, or workflow bottlenecks and recommend practical improvements to receipt inspection and tracking processes.
  • Coordinate with CSL staff and other technical contacts to resolve inspection-related questions, clarify documentation issues, and support timely closure of outstanding items.
  • Support implementation of approved process or database updates that improve inspection tracking, data quality, and reporting effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and day-to-day needs of the metrology and standards laboratory operation.
