About The Position

This role involves managing the Metrology Lab's workload, supervising and developing personnel, and ensuring the accuracy and usability of measurement data. The position requires expertise in various inspection types, capability studies, and the development of measurement equipment programs. It also includes designing and overseeing gauge fabrication, recommending new equipment purchases, and collaborating with customers on gauging strategies. Budget management and staying current with metrology technology are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Experience assisting with metrology information for new job quotes.
  • Experience with new metrology technology applications such as surface scanning and volumetric scanning.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule all Measuring and Testing workload in the Metrology Lab.
  • Supervise and develop the Metrology Personnel, including Metrology Technicians and Dimensional Inspectors.
  • Ensure all gauging calibration.
  • Oversight of measurements for all “C”, “Q”, DOE, FFA, MFA and PPAP inspections.
  • Perform product capability studies.
  • Ensure data provided to Quality, Project Managers, Engineers, etc. is accurate and in a usable format.
  • Develop programs for all measurement equipment and identify the appropriate equipment for the dimension being measured.
  • Assist in Set-up of new physical testing and perform R&R Studies on new gauging.
  • Design/oversee all fabricated gauges built in-house or outsourced including CMM fixtures, vision fixtures, dedicated gages, Go/No-Go gauges, deco gages, etc.
  • Aid in the recommendations and purchase of any new measuring/test equipment plantwide.
  • Aid in streamlining in-process checks and interpreting prints for control plans.
  • Negotiate annual measuring equipment contracts.
  • Meet with customers pre-production to discuss gauging and cost and work with their designer on reference system improvement to meet the product functional and design intent where needed.
  • Account for monthly metrology budget.
  • Assist metrology information to new job quote.
  • Experience and be open with new metrology technology applications such as surface scanning (structured light/Laser, etc..) and volumetric scanning (CT) through analyzing such data.
