About The Position

The Metrology Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving measurement systems, calibration processes, and inspection methods to ensure product quality, process capability, and compliance with regulatory and industry standards. This role supports manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams by validating measurement accuracy, analyzing data, troubleshooting metrology-related issues, and implementing best practices for precision measurement. The Metrology Engineer plays a key role in driving continuous improvement, reducing measurement variation, and ensuring reliable data for product and process decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in technical discipline; Operations, Science, Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 Years Experience
  • Background in Statistics, Vision Measuring Systems and Plastic Technology.
  • Basic understanding of dimensional measurement principles and inspection techniques.
  • Familiarity with common metrology equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, CMMs, and vision systems.
  • Knowledge of calibration practices, measurement traceability, and equipment control.
  • Exposure to engineering drawings, part specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Basic understanding of statistical methods such as Gauge R&R, MSA, SPC, and process capability.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret measurement data to support product quality and process improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, for documentation and data analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures, work instructions, and quality system requirements.
  • Able to routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with written and oral skills, make quick decisions, interpret data, read and write, speak in front of groups, express and exchange ideas, understand direction and adhere to procedures
  • Organizational skills will enable planning, prioritization and achievement of goals especially of importance for the successful execution of related activities

Nice To Haves

  • ASQ Certification (CQE) is a plus.
  • Experience working in a regulated, high-precision, or manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with injection molding, plastics manufacturing, or medical device production is preferred, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain metrology methods and measurement systems for injection molded components, tooling, and secondary operations.
  • Support dimensional validation of injection molded parts to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, customer specifications, and quality standards.
  • Manage calibration and maintenance programs for metrology equipment including CMMs, vision systems, optical comparators, height gauges, micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, and specialized inspection devices.
  • Establish and maintain traceable calibration records and ensure compliance with internal procedures, ISO requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Perform measurement system analysis, including Gauge R&R, bias, linearity, stability, and capability studies to verify measurement reliability.
  • Partner with tooling, process engineering, and manufacturing teams to evaluate mold performance, cavity variation, shrinkage behavior, warpage, and dimensional consistency.
  • Support mold trials, first article inspections, process validations, IQ/OQ/PQ activities, and new product introductions.
  • Analyze dimensional data to identify trends, process drift, and sources of variation related to molding parameters, tooling wear, resin behavior, or environmental conditions.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to inspection methods, fixturing, sampling strategies, and data collection processes.
  • Review part drawings, tolerance stacks, and GD&T callouts to define appropriate measurement techniques and inspection plans.
  • Investigate nonconformances and support root cause analysis for dimensional and measurement-related quality issues.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing to establish acceptance criteria and control plans for critical-to-quality features.
  • Create and maintain metrology procedures, inspection instructions, validation protocols, and measurement documentation.
  • Support troubleshooting of molding and measurement issues affecting part geometry, including flash, sink, bow, warp, short shots, and part deformation.
  • Ensure measurement readiness for complex molded components, including tight-tolerance, multi-cavity, insert-molded, or high-precision parts.
  • Evaluate and introduce new metrology technologies to improve inspection capability, throughput, and accuracy in support of injection molding operations.
  • Train quality technicians, inspectors, and operators on proper use of measurement equipment and standardized inspection methods.
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits by providing calibration, validation, and measurement system documentation.
  • Work closely with suppliers and external laboratories as needed for gauge calibration, correlation studies, or advanced dimensional analysis.
