About The Position

Join Catalent’s flagship softgel development and manufacturing facility in North America, located in St. Petersburg, FL, with a capacity of 18 billion capsules per year. The Metrologist is responsible for the general oversight and support of laboratory instrumentation. Solves problems, provide Validation support, support Preventive Maintenance and Calibration, lead capital appropriate requests and provide troubleshooting and repair support, assist in training of personnel on instrumentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metrology, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related scientific discipline required.
  • 5+ years of experience in metrology, or instrumentation intense position in a GMP-regulated environment required.
  • Work experience in cGMP laboratory is required.
  • Prior experience troubleshooting of electronic and electrical circuits.
  • Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-15 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include ability to differentiate color, have 20/30 vision in each eye with or without corrective lenses, read written documents and frequent use of a computer monitor.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience as laboratory administrator is preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience handling regulatory/customer audit for laboratory systems is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure laboratory instrument calibration and preventive maintenance (PM) programs are performed as scheduled, including reviewing and maintaining all calibration and PM documentation.
  • Coordinate outside contractors for calibration, preventive maintenance, and equipment service, ensuring services are scheduled, approved, completed, and compliant with industry guidelines.
  • Create, review, and maintain internal and external calibration and preventive maintenance master documentation to ensure required checks and assessments are completed in compliance with applicable guidelines.
  • Serve as the laboratory system administrator and a member of the data integrity team, evaluating laboratory systems for compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 and corporate data integrity requirements, including periodic system reviews.
  • Provide technical support to laboratory personnel by performing initial troubleshooting, serving as the primary point of contact for laboratory systems, and coordinating communication with corporate teams and local users.
  • Attend external training to become a subject matter expert on laboratory instrumentation and provide ongoing technical support and guidance to laboratory personnel.
  • Lead capital equipment requests, oversee the decommissioning of outdated laboratory instruments, and ensure the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) remains current and accurate.
  • Perform and assist with calibration and preventive maintenance activities while ensuring appropriate controls are in place to support regulatory compliance and data integrity requirements.
