Metro Volunteers serve in an unpaid, at-will capacity for the Department; however, they will receive mileage reimbursement for mileage incurred traveling to and from area assignments. Metro Volunteers do not have police power. They volunteer in different bureaus of the Department to perform, on a part-time basis, non-confrontational support services. Metro Volunteers staff visitor counters and information booths; answer general phone and in-person inquiries; assist in crowd control; help officers to set up and maintain the perimeters of auto accident scenes; conduct handicap parking enforcement; interact with visitors and residents as goodwill ambassadors; and deliver safety guidance in public schools. Metro Volunteers are able to determine their work schedules and the areas of the Department they are interested in working. All Volunteers will be required to work at least eight (8) hours per month.
