About The Position

The GE Vernova Hydropower division is looking for a motivated resource to join our team. Our department is a mix of experienced engineers and technicians. Our department, Methods, Tooling, and Innovations (MTI), supports the construction and commissioning side of hydropower refurbishment jobs by providing work procedures, assembly and disassembly tooling, and innovative research and development projects. Reporting to the Methods & Special Tooling Leader, the tooling design technician is involved in the design of installation tools, machining, dismantling, handling and lifting tools. Participate in the design of specialized tools related to recent major projects or being submitted.

Requirements

  • College Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Civil or Structural degree can also be considered.
  • Fluent in French and English (oral and written).
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada & US without restriction.
  • Ability to travel from time to time in North America.
  • Design 3D drawing (NX), 2D drawing Autocad Mechanical is mandatory.
  • SmartSheet and Excel Intermediate knowledge.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Safety Standards for Material Handling and Lifting Equipment (OSHA) B30.20 Below the hook.
  • Knowledge of welding and machining would be an asset.
  • Team player.
  • Articulate, communicates effectively.
  • Knowledge and experience with mechanical design and the field of hydropower.
  • Knowledge of material resistance, metallurgy and welding.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the technical information (technical specifications, scope of work).
  • Participate in the design of the site's special tooling for site assembly in accordance with site planning and budget considering the EHS aspect.
  • Plan the tooling phase, follow-up and coordination with the team.
  • Optimization of the tooling design or the machine to improve and reduce site installation time.
  • Prepare information and execute technical drawings.
  • Write reports and technical documents, including test procedures, technical notes, and maintenance manuals.
  • Provide technical support to the supply chain and participate in the technical support of the site teams.
  • Validate the costing of tooling during the tendering phase with other members of the Construction & Commissioning team.
  • Responsible of deliverables and budgets on their projects.
