About The Position

As a Method & Procedures Advisor I (MPAI), you will have the distinct pleasure of being part of a diverse unit that is responsible for coordinating the development, review, and approval of standardized departmental policy, procedures, and forms. We are seeking individuals with a passion in reviewing policy, procedures, and forms and to revise same when necessary to ensure continued compliance with state and federal statutes and regulations. This position is responsible for addressing administrative, operational, and security issues, and maintains a permanent historical record of Departmental Rules, Administrative Directives, and forms. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in public administration, accounting, industrial relations, prelegal or personnel management.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience in public administration, business management, or accounting.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers extensive knowledge of management principles and techniques, including organization structures, staffing patterns and administrative controls.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience developing administrative directives and departmental rules of an organization.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience reviewing and revising administrative directives or rules of an organization.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience interpreting policies and directives of an organization.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience using computer software systems.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience analyzing state, federal legislation, regulations, or court decisions.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience studying the effectiveness of policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes legislation, Illinois Administrative Code, statutes, Federal Codes, court decisions, American Correctional Association (ACA) and National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards and memoranda.
  • Conducts periodic review of existing rules and directives and forms.
  • Inputs new and revised rules and directives denoting old and new language.
  • Maintains permanent historical documentation of policy development, the actual past and current adopted policies and cross reference indexes.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposed new programs.
  • Drafts new rules, administrative directives, and forms to implement new programs.
  • Submits approved rules for formal rulemaking process.
  • Researches past and current policies to respond to requests from the courts, State Attorneys, Public Defenders, other state agencies, other States’ Department of Corrections, federal government agencies, cities, counties and the public.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
