Requirements

  • Associate or higher degree from an accredited tech school or college in electronics engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, computer engineering technology or communications technology. OR have 3-5 years prior field work experience relevant to job description or comparable work experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Effective Written and verbal communications skills necessary for customer and team interaction.
  • Knowledge of basic/electrical principles and demonstrated proficiency in basic math skills
  • Familiarity with basic computer operations and able to run common application programs such as Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to pass background screening to become NERCI-CIP compliant
  • Must possess all of the basic/required qualifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with electrical schematics, electrical troubleshooting and installations
  • Familiarity with watt-hour metering and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of Electric distributions systems, e.g. different services types and voltages
  • Knowledge of service area within reporting location.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and program meters.
  • Perform Interchange Tie-Testing, Wholesale/Transmission metering, and Plant Metering.
  • Conduct high-end metering installations including JemStar, ION, Q1000 and translate meters.
  • Work with Mobile Work Management Systems (SS9) application as well as other Duke applications such as Maplink, CBIS, Powertrack, etc.
  • Utilize telecommunications devices (i.e. Wireless, Cellular, RS 232/474, ethernet).
  • Apply knowledge of communication protocols (ie DNP, MODBUS, etc.).
  • Perform general troubleshooting.
  • Interact with customers, often involving conflict resolution.
  • Respond to call outs, extended days, and weekend work for scheduled projects or emergency restoration work.
  • Receive and complete daily work via mobile laptops in trucks.
  • Handle testing equipment and materials, which involves squatting, lifting, and carrying up to 60 pounds.
