About The Position

This is an examination for a Meter Technician Unit Leader position. By submitting an application, you are applying to take a Civil Service Examination for the opportunity to be placed on an Eligible List for a future opening. An experience evaluation will be conducted based on your academic training and experience pertinent to the classification. The Meter Technician Unit Leader supervises the daily work crew engaged in the meter operation of the water distribution system, ensures subordinates adhere to City policies, oversees scheduled repair work, investigates and clears meter complaints, gives directions to the crew, answers questions from superiors and customers, conducts field inspections, makes repairs, fills out requisitions and daily trip tickets, reads roll maps and sections sheets, writes comprehensive reports, and attends training classes as required. Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of full-time paid field experience in the repair of water meters required.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of field experience in repairing and calibrating meters is preferred.
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.
  • Valid State of Ohio Distribution I, II, or III License is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the daily work crew engaged in the meter operation of the water distribution system.
  • Ensures that subordinates adhere to all City policies and procedures.

  • Investigates and clears meter complaints received.
  • Gives directions to assigned crew and answers questions from superiors and customers.

  • Fills out requisitions and daily trip tickets of all jobs.
  • Reads and deciphers roll maps and sections sheets.
  • Writes comprehensive reports.
  • Attends training classes as required.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
