About The Position

Join Golden Valley Electric Association as a Meter Technician First Year in Fairbanks, Alaska, and play a key role in ensuring accurate electric metering and reliable service for our members across Interior Alaska. In this role, you will install, read, inspect, maintain, connect, and disconnect electric meters for residential and commercial accounts while providing exceptional customer service and support in the field. As a Meter Technician, you will perform meter inspections, troubleshoot metering issues, complete service orders, support outage restoration efforts, and assist with engineering field work that helps maintain the reliability of GVEA's electrical system. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Alaska driver's license with a good driving record
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to interact professionally with members in a variety of field situations
  • Dependable

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to work in close proximity to energized electrical equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively via radio and in person
  • Ability to accurately complete service orders and field documentation
  • Ability to read maps
  • Ability to follow technical instructions
  • Ability to respond appropriately to challenging situations involving aggressive pets or hostile customers
  • Current First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within three months of employment

Responsibilities

  • Install, read, inspect, maintain, connect, and disconnect electric meters for residential and commercial accounts.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support in the field.
  • Perform meter inspections.
  • Troubleshoot metering issues.
  • Complete service orders.
  • Support outage restoration efforts.
  • Assist with engineering field work.
  • Accurately document service activities to support billing and revenue collection.
  • Inspect equipment for defects or unauthorized connections.
  • Respond to member concerns regarding usage and billing.
  • Deliver disconnect notices.
  • Collect payments in the field.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with GVEA's safety standards and procedures.
  • Assist with network troubleshooting, field surveys, power line patrols, pole attachment inspections, and outage restoration efforts.
