About The Position

Responsible for the day-to-day supervision, coordination, and performance of the Meter Maintenance activities, which directly support Columbus Water Works’ Purpose, Vision, and Strategic Initiatives. Provides operational leadership for programs and activities including, but not limited to, residential and commercial meter installation and testing, large and small meter testing, leak detection, meter reading, and customer meter services. Coordinates daily work activities, staffing, customer service requests, accounting/billing requests, reporting, and communication. Monitors departmental performance and assists with all required daily, weekly, and monthly reporting. Serves as a champion and provides leadership for process and efficiency improvements for the division. Serves as a field investigator for customer issues and a technical advisor regarding distribution network information. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Meter Maintenance Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3 years related experience or technical training working on meters or water distribution system.
  • Position requires working knowledge of multiple software platforms including; Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, etc.), AUS CIS Infinity, and Neptune 360.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills required.
  • Good math skills required.
  • Ability to navigate throughout the service area using maps, landmarks, and physical addresses required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor weather conditions required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret operating and maintenance instructions, safety procedures, standard operating procedures, schematic drawings, etc.
  • Ability to write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret various graphs and charts.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Georgia Water Distribution Operator preferred.
  • Certification in Confined Space Entry, CPR and First Aid Standard, and GA Backflow Prevention Tester; certification(s) may be obtained within twelve months of employment if otherwise qualified.
  • State of Georgia Water Distribution Operator Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the organizing, planning, and assigning of work performed by the Department. Provide guidance and training opportunities to subordinates in the accomplishment of difficult and unusual tasks
  • Coordinate between the Meter Maintenance Department and other departments, including but not limited to Customer Service, Field Services, and Accounting/Billing, as necessary to ensure timely and effective resolution of customer service requests/orders.
  • Assists with daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports, including monthly Board information.
  • Serves as a CWW Lead (“First Responder”) regarding Customer Complaints/Issues. Provides field information to respective department decision makers related to customer complaints/issues (i.e. vehicle incidents, personal injuries and/or personal property damages).
  • Serves as a Technical Advisor related to the distribution and collection network including valve configuration(s), meter configuration(s), infrastructure location and other pertinent information to support routine and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Ensures safety guidelines are incorporated into all phases of all programs
  • Interacts with customers to convey a pleasant and positive message regarding work performed on their services.
  • Provides leadership, coordinates, and monitors residential and commercial meter installation, meter testing, meter reading, leak detection, and customer meter services activities.
  • Working in conjunction with the accounting department to ensure accurate data collection for billing purposes, which includes, but is not limited to, reviewing and assigning service orders.
  • Assists with annual evaluations, hiring functions and corrective actions for all subordinates and responsible for proper time and attendance activities for the Department, including validation of time and attendance records.
  • Assists with annual budget and schedules capital expenditures
