About The Position

Install and maintain self-contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises. Successful candidates must reside within a 35-mile radius or 40 roadway miles from the McAlester Operations Center. This role involves working independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe, efficient, and productive manner. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in electrical/electronic technology. Equivalent education and experience is limited to military training and work experience of technical/technician nature (such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician).
  • State Driver License.
  • Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law.
  • Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for this position including: classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations.
  • Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends.
  • Work late shifts as needed.
  • Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
  • Effectively communicate with other employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
  • Promote a positive image of the Company to customers and the general public.
  • Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, change, disconnect, and reconnect meters
  • Test single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters for proper operation and accuracy
  • Program meters
  • Perform Credit and Collections related orders including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment
  • Investigate irregular usage
  • Investigate energy diversion
  • Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures
  • Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meters and associated equipment
  • Investigate self-contained service power quality problems
  • Install event recorders and neutral testers
  • Produce reports
  • Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms
  • Report hazards and abnormal conditions
  • Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees
