About The Position

We are seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician in our Metals Department. In this position, you will be responsible for the preparation of water and soil environmental samples for analysis of metals, and for performing other analyses as training commences. This individual will be responsible for following all safety and quality guidelines while maintaining a satisfactory production level.

Requirements

  • A.S. Physical Sciences; laboratory experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of good laboratory practice.
  • Comfortable in a high paced production laboratory environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems preferred.
  • The ability to stand for intervals of up to 8 hours while working;
  • Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers;
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware;
  • Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment;
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eye protection, gloves, etc., when required.
  • Ability to stand for a full shift.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odors.
  • To be eligible to work at ALS you must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa.

Responsibilities

  • Performing laboratory tests as outlined by the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Performing all required calibrations, standardization and Quality Control tests.
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with ALS health and safety policies, procedures.
  • Proper use, care and routine maintenance of support equipment and testing instrumentation.
  • Properly completing all hardcopy and electronic documentation for monitoring the status of tests and recording their traceability and conformance to requirements.
  • Manual and automatic upload of data for tests performed.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe work area.
  • Accurately recording personal production and meeting production requirements.
  • Routing samples for additional testing as outlined by SOPs.
  • Properly storing and disposing of samples and chemical reagents.
  • Complying with local and corporate quality assurance policies, as well as ISO 17025 lab accreditation requirements.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by management, as required
