About The Position

The Metals Technician plays a critical role in supporting the production, testing, and quality assurance of metal components and materials within industrial and manufacturing settings. This position is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and processing various metals to ensure they meet stringent specifications and standards. The Metals Technician collaborates closely with engineers and production teams to troubleshoot material issues and optimize metal treatments and fabrication processes. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent with completion of relevant technical training in metallurgy or materials science.
• Experience working with metal testing equipment and familiarity with metallurgical processes.
• Basic understanding of metal properties, heat treatment, and fabrication techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and testing standards.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures.
• The Metals Technician utilizes technical skills daily to prepare and analyze metal samples, ensuring materials meet required specifications.
• Proficiency with metallurgical testing equipment allows the technician to accurately assess material properties and identify defects.
• Strong analytical skills support the interpretation of test data and the communication of results to engineering teams for process improvements.
• Attention to detail and adherence to safety standards are essential to maintain quality and a safe working environment.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree or certification in metallurgy, materials science, or a related technical field.
• Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic or magnetic particle inspection.
• Knowledge of industry standards such as ASTM, ISO, or SAE related to metals and materials testing.
• Proficiency in using computer software for data collection and analysis.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment involving metal fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Conduct metallurgical testing and analysis using techniques such as hardness testing, tensile testing, and microscopic examination.
• Prepare metal samples by cutting, grinding, polishing, and etching to facilitate detailed inspection and analysis.
• Operate and maintain specialized equipment including furnaces, heat treatment ovens, and spectrometers to process and evaluate metals.
• Document test results accurately and communicate findings to engineering and quality assurance teams to support decision-making.
• Assist in developing and implementing metal treatment procedures to improve material properties and production efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve material defects and improve product quality.
