About The Position

The Metallurgy Lab Technician will be responsible for preparing material samples for various tests, performing laboratory tests, operating and maintaining equipment, and assisting engineers and scientists with research and development projects. This role requires a strong attention to detail, proficiency in laboratory procedures, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment. The technician will ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous laboratory, manufacturing, quality control, or materials testing experience preferred.
  • Experience with metallurgical testing equipment and laboratory procedures is an asset.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing methods and quality control practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and laboratory software systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and prepare samples.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Metallurgical Technology, Materials Science, Engineering Technology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and laboratory experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare material samples for mechanical, metallurgical, and chemical testing.
  • Perform laboratory tests including hardness testing, microscopic examinations, and other material evaluations.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and testing instruments.
  • Collect, record, and analyze test data accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintain laboratory documentation.
  • Assist engineers and scientists with research, development, and failure analysis projects.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Monitor inventory levels of laboratory supplies and materials.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization efforts.
  • Follow all company safety policies and applicable environmental regulations.
