About The Position

The Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for collaborating with all other Quality functions, providing resources and assistance throughout the operation, and performing assigned laboratory activities.

Requirements

  • College degree in: Metallurgy or materials engineering is required
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred
  • Heat treating experience preferred

  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform fundamental mathematical skills and concepts (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, and the basics of algebra and geometry).
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for any laboratory activity assigned
  • Responsible for creating lab reports
  • Cross train with Mechanical Testing Manager and Lab Technical Director
  • Assist in managing the lab's demands to complete all lab work in a timely manner
  • Perform metallurgical evaluations to determine the microstructure and case depth of heat-treated samples
  • Document lab results in Bluestreak, Midwest Metallurgical Laboratories (MML) in-house operating system
  • Perform various other metallurgical evaluations including but not limited to spectroscopy, grain flow, and grain size.
  • Section and prepare samples for evaluation
  • Perform micro-hardness testing
  • Document and interpret photographs of sample microstructures
  • Perform basic maintenance on all lab equipment
  • Perform verification activities on equipment as required
  • Monitor & maintain lab supplies
  • Verify tags are accurate and complete
  • Maintain sample archive
  • Prepare items for transfer between various work centers
  • Generate, fill out, and assist in the investigation of non-conformances
  • Ensure lab organization & cleanliness
