About The Position

The Metal Finishing Supervisor directs and coordinates day-to-day activities of the metal finishing department in safely processing materials, ensuring the maintenance of tank chemistries, scheduling and directing labor, and supporting manufacturing flow and lean processes by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate and technical personnel. Every day at Hubbell is different and you’ll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you’ll make a difference by supervising hourly employees, maintaining log of shift operations, preparing daily time sheets for hourly employees, production summaries, overtime, and downtime reports. You will plan work assignments to achieve maximum utilization of manpower, materials, equipment, and facilities. You will work with Engineering personnel concerning new or revised methods, layouts, processes, and equipment to increase operating efficiency, reduce cost or improve quality. You will work with Material Control personnel concerning production schedules, parts, etc. Providing feedback on status of schedule and needs for change. You will work with Quality Control personnel concerning the maintenance and interpretation of quality standards. You will communicate to management any changes or conditions which may affect production. You will work with Human Resources concerning employee or labor relations matters. You will assure compliance with plant rules, policies, safety standards and good housekeeping. You will drive safety culture through attitude, activities, and strict enforcement of safety procedures, training, and PPE compliance. You will ensure environmental compliance through monitoring of processes and waste handling to ensure company, local, and federal standards are met. You will be responsible for operation of waste treatment (Air and water) systems in compliance with company policies and local, state, and federal government requirements. You will maintain a high standard of cleanliness and housekeeping within the department to ensure a safe, healthy and well-maintained workplace environment. You will review production orders and/or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations. You will plan production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products. You will prepare operational schedules and coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications. You will communicate with other operations supervisors to ensure proper flow of materials to ensure schedule compliance and past-due work order minimalization/elimination. You will drive continuous improvement projects in the department using Lean Manufacturing principles including visual management boards, kaizen events, 5-S, TPM, and other elements of the Hubbell Manufacturing System. You will review production and operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays. You will inspect machines and equipment to ensure specific safe and efficient operational performance and optimum utilization. You will develop or revise standard operational and working practices and observe workers to ensure compliance with standards. You will resolve employee concerns and interpersonal conflicts or submit unsettled issues to Department Manager for action. You will compile, store, and retrieve production data.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 6-10 years of relevant experience (required)
  • Prior production leadership experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment (required)
  • Knowledge and use of Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Proficiency in related systems and software
  • 40 Hour Emergency Response Training required due to hazards associated with chemical handling and hazardous waste handling in the facility. Required by 29 CFR 1910.120
  • Hazardous Waste Operations training required by 40 CFR 265.16

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 6+ years of leadership experience preferred
  • Relevant certification(s) preferred
