Requirements

  • Experience with automotive painting and/or metal finishing
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Recognize and react to abnormal operating conditions
  • Use and wear personal protective equipment as indicated by the task or environment
  • Use and control work tools for painting and spraying
  • See variety of paint colors for painting truck parts and panels
  • Differentiate shades of paint colors
  • Hear safety alarms and other co-workers
  • Use and control work tools
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and other co-workers
  • Perform duties in a frequently loud work environment
  • Use hoist or cranes to assist with heavy lifting of equipment
  • Climb up 7-9 steps and/or into truck cabs to perform job functions
  • Individually lift and manipulate parts/equipment weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Tolerate constant standing and walking throughout the shift
  • Maintain balance while walking on slippery floor, ladders, and while pushing a cart with equipment/parts
  • Perform tasks while crouching, sitting, kneeling, or in an awkward position
  • Perform safe lifting of equipment and tools
  • Carry spray and painting tools for an extended period of time
  • Use vibratory tools throughout the shift
  • Use both hands for tool operation, carrying of parts, and assisting co-workers with heavy lifting of parts or panels
  • Detect hazardous materials near or around the work area
  • Use a computer to read prints on trucks and sign off job tasks
  • Remember task sequence and safety constraints

Nice To Haves

  • Four years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree in Auto Body repair or related area
  • Four years of experience with automotive painting and/or metal finishing

Responsibilities

  • Use hand and power tools to prep truck parts and panels for the painting process
  • Evenly apply primer and paint to parts and panels
  • Inspect and fix defects on parts and panels
  • Bleed lines, apply sealer, and apply paint to parts and panels
  • Detect unpainted areas or paint defects on parts and panels and correct as needed
  • Caulk, tape, and hang parts and panels
  • Rotate between painting, sanding and taping
  • Transport truck parts and panels to and from designated areas
  • Push/pull carts filled with parts and equipment with the help of other co-workers to designated area
  • Assist co-workers on lifting parts and panels and tools
  • Review check sheets and notes
  • Clean work area and work tools
  • Communicate verbally with co-workers to keep a safe working environment
  • Sweep and clean work area and equipment
  • Be responsive to needs of co-workers and supervisors
  • Use a computer to locate and read truck prints and sign off job tasks
  • Participate in onboarding training (within 6 months of start date) and annual training related to being a hazardous waste handler as required by the EPA RCRA hazardous waste rules. This will include ability to understand what waste hazards are, storage time limits, satellite accumulation, marking, labeling, weekly inspections, aisle space, storage, manifest shipping, use and location of emergency equipment, response to spills and fires, evacuation routes, etc. RCRA training records will be maintained as required.
  • Review daily paperwork

  • Climb onto roof of trucks with the use of fall restraints to perform sanding and painting duties
  • Read blueprints of truck
  • Mix paint and empty waste paint

  • Regulate paint kitchen and dump waste paint
