About The Position

Metal Fabrication Supervisor positions plan, schedule, lay out, and assign work to welders, machinists, body and fender mechanics, and equipment painters engaged in repairing and overhauling automotive and industrial equipment; design and draw sketches for metal fabrication jobs; prepare budget, cost estimate, and work schedules; prepare and approve orders for repair parts and materials; enforce safety regulations; maintain records and prepare reports; train and evaluate the work performance of subordinates; and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Six years of full-time experience in all phases of journey-level work as a Body & Fender Mechanic, Equipment Painter, Machinist, or Welder AND one year of supervisory experience that MUST reflect responsibility for the full range of supervisory duties including planning and scheduling the work of employees, employee selection, training, evaluation, commendations, and discipline.
  • Successful completion of a state-accredited four-year Body & Fender Mechanic, Equipment Painter, Machinist, or Welder Apprenticeship Program AND two years of full-time journey-level experience in one of the followings: Body & Fender Mechanic, Equipment Painter, Machinist, or Welder AND one year of supervisory experience that MUST reflect responsibility for the full range of supervisory duties including planning and scheduling the work of employees, employee selection, training, evaluation, commendations, and discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and apprenticeship training as specified above equaling six years AND one year of supervisory experience that MUST reflect responsibility for the full range of supervisory duties including planning and scheduling the work of employees, employee selection, training, evaluation, commendations, and discipline.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
  • Proof of apprenticeship completion, if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
  • For City of San Diego employees, proof of Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA), if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
  • Confirmation of citizenship or legal right to work in the United States
  • Completion of a pre-employment medical review and exam (which may include drug and alcohol testing)
