About The Position

Perform all necessary tasks for the preparation and metallographic evaluation of all process control samples. Sample types include thermal sprayed coatings, honeycomb braze, welded coupons, water jet, EDM and laser. Other responsibilities include maintaining necessary records and sample identification, sectioning, mounting and polishing techniques necessary for high quality metallographic mounts. Prepare and test thermal sprayed test specimens for the purpose of determining bond strength and coating hardness. Maintain all assigned equipment in good working order and ensure that adequate inventory of consumable supplies are available to allow for the continuous and economical operation of the laboratory. Instruct and train others as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • 2 + years of experience with inspecting aircraft hardware
  • 2 + years of experience with use of basic precision measuring instruments including micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators
  • 2 + years of experience with use of shop math, including fractions, decimals, percentages, and areas
  • 2 + years of experience operating various hand and power tools and basic machine tools and equipment
  • Ability to obtain forklift license as required
  • Basic use of computers, applications, and keyboarding (e.g., email, Microsoft Excel, etc.)
  • Must be CCL Certified in level 2 preparation and evaluation of coatings after obtaining required hours (1040)

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of metallurgical terms and applications
  • CCL Certified
  • Experience as a Thermal Spray Operator
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting belt sanders, polishers, cut off saws, grinders, and Tensile Test
  • Experience in chemical handling of job-related process solutions
  • Experience in troubleshooting and performing preventative maintenance on minor inspection equipment
  • Experience reading and interpreting engine manuals
  • Experience using measuring microscopes, image analysis
