About The Position

The Merchant leads category strategy development and execution for a moderately complex category, driving financial performance and customer-centric decisions across channels. This role manages supplier relationships, pricing, promotions, and assortment planning while leveraging data insights to optimize inventory and product lifecycle management. The Merchant oversees team performance, supports budgeting and forecasting, and ensures alignment with business objectives. By fostering collaboration and operational excellence, this position contributes to delivering value and enhancing the customer experience through strategic initiatives and effective category management. The furniture and mattress team collaborates to deliver high-quality products and build strategic supplier partnerships. They lead category strategy, manage financial performance, and oversee inventory and supplier relations to achieve business objectives. Focused on enhancing the customer experience across all channels, the team leverages data insights and executes merchandising plans effectively. Committed to continuous improvement and operational discipline, members drive results through clear communication, sound decision-making, and fostering a productive work environment aligned with company standards and values.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in category strategy development and execution for moderately complex categories.
  • Strong financial management skills, including profit and loss ownership and budget forecasting.
  • Experience in supplier management, negotiation, and performance tracking.
  • Ability to analyze market trends, customer behavior, and competitive landscape to inform decisions.
  • Proficiency in assortment planning, inventory management, and product lifecycle oversight.
  • Demonstrated leadership in team management, including coaching, development, and performance evaluation.
  • Competence in leveraging data analytics and digital tools to drive strategic initiatives.
  • Adaptability to evolving business needs and operational challenges.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field and 3 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area OR 5 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute category strategies aligned with long-term business objectives and market trends.

  • Drive assortment planning, modular layouts, and product lifecycle management to optimize category performance.
  • Utilize data analysis and digital tools to inform decisions and improve operational efficiency.
  • Supervise and develop team members, fostering performance, engagement, and compliance with company standards.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to enhance customer experience across all channels and touchpoints.
