About The Position

TJ Maxx is seeking a Merchandise Controller for their Distribution Center in Pittston, USA. This role is responsible for ensuring merchandise meets company standards for fashion, quality, brand, and price. The position involves inspecting merchandise, verifying pricing accuracy, ensuring adherence to shipping philosophies, and confirming labeling meets legal requirements. The Merchandise Controller will also assess the appropriateness of logos, graphics, and hangtags, address vendor compliance issues, and collaborate with internal teams to resolve problems. A key aspect of the role is developing and utilizing work management systems for effective problem-solving, issuing rework directions, and communicating merchandising issues with significant scope or financial impact. Building and maintaining relationships with warehouse associates, DC management, and Home Office Business Partners is crucial. The role also includes training new Merchandise Controllers, educating associates, answering questions regarding purchase orders, and communicating Planning objectives between the DC and Home Office. Ensuring building compliance with merchandise-related best practices is also a responsibility.

Requirements

  • 2+ years retail experience.
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to multitask.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business or related discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure merchandise is thoroughly inspected and meets the company value requirements for fashion, quality brand and price.
  • Challenge Marmaxx retail price and ensure that "compare at price" on ticket reflects the company standard of 20-60% off.
  • Ensure mix of color, size, style, and quantity adhere to the company’s shipping philosophy.
  • Confirm merchandise labeling meets legal requirements.
  • Inspect appropriateness of logos, graphics, hangtags, and merchandise to our stores.
  • Proactively addresses Vendor Compliance issues and opportunities.
  • Partner and collaborate with all appropriate resources in the Distribution Center and Home Office to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Develop and apply in-depth understanding of all work management systems and tools to effectively problem solve.
  • Issue direction for re-work in the DC.
  • Answer all Planning calls and requests including taking photos and sending samples.
  • Identify and communicate merchandising issues that have large scope/financial impact.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with general warehouse associates, DC management, and Home Office Business Partners.
  • Train new Merchandise Controllers and continually educate all associate levels.
  • Answer general warehouse associate questions pertaining to purchase orders.
  • Communicate Planning objectives to DC team and vice versa.
  • Ensure building compliance with best practices related to merchandise.
