About The Position

Gilbane is seeking a Commissioning Manager to oversee the commissioning process for data center systems and components, ensuring they function correctly before the facility goes live. The role manages commissioning from initial planning and design reviews through final testing and handover, and ensures facilities and systems meet design specifications, health and safety standards, and performance requirements. The manager coordinates communication among teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors; oversees documentation and testing; and leads and develops direct reports. The position calls for a coach and leader who builds inclusive, high-performing teams, communicates progress and strategy, and uses business and industry insights to make decisions and address long-term opportunities and risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 10–12 years of data center commissioning experience.
• In-depth knowledge of data center systems, including power distribution, cooling, HVAC, and IT equipment.
• Ability to manage schedules, budgets, change orders, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for interacting effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to identify and resolve issues promptly and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Manage all stages of the commissioning process, from initial planning and design reviews to final testing and handover.
• Create commissioning plans, schedules, test procedures (such as IET and IPVT/IST), and verification checklists.
• Ensure the facility and its systems comply with design specifications, health and safety standards, and performance requirements.
• Serve as the main point of contact and manage communication among teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Prepare and manage documentation, including inspection reports, test results, and final certification documents.
• Perform and oversee functional testing, site acceptance testing, and other tests to verify system performance.
• Train direct reports on processes, procedures, and daily task completion.
• Manage direct reports’ workload and performance in alignment with company standards.
• Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that motivates and engages team members.
• Help communicate company and department strategy to direct reports.
