About The Position

Bartlett Cocke General Contractors is seeking an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Estimator to join our team! This individual will provide comprehensive preconstruction estimating for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing, Fire Sprinkler Systems, Electrical, Communications, Life Safety, and other low-voltage systems for complex commercial construction projects.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in fundamental mathematics and spatial visualization.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to write reports, develop forms, and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) is desirable but not required.
  • Familiarity with MEP system installation methods in commercial facilities.
  • Experience with Quantity Takeoff, Timberline, or similar software.
  • Proficiency in BIM software (Revit, Navisworks, Assemble).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the MEP portion of estimates, ensuring all scopes are coordinated and complete.
  • Review and interpret narratives, plans, and specifications to ensure alignment between pricing and scope of work.
  • Develop conceptual estimates based on limited information throughout project design phases.
  • Contribute to the development and review of design alternatives, cost options, and value engineering.
  • Create and manage MEP pricing bid strategies, breakouts, and work packages.
  • Present and explain MEP pricing and costs to clients and engineers.
  • Assist project teams in evaluating proposals and developing scopes of work for subcontracts.
  • Coordinate with marketing personnel on technical aspects of proposals.
  • Conduct reviews of Conceptual, SD, DD, and CD drawings to confirm schematics and specifications are complete.
  • Maintain working knowledge of relevant building codes, conducting research as needed.
  • Ensure utility coordination among civil, electrical, and mechanical/data disciplines.
  • Participate constructively in project meetings, providing input on constructability, logistics, sequencing, design considerations, and pricing.
  • Provide input on task durations and scheduling.
  • Identify and communicate lead times and testing requirements for schedule incorporation.
